Wrekin 2023 - 2024

Hello, 

Welcome to Wrekin Class, the learning environment for pupils in Year 1 and 2.  

In Wrekin we promote enthusiasm and a love of learning. Our engaging curriculum encourages pupils to take ownership of their education. 

We come to school ready to learn and start off the day with phonics, spellings and handwriting. We follow Pathways to Write for our English and the use of engaging and colourful picture books for each unit provides many opportunities for building our reading and writing skills. In Maths we always start with some active learning and follow a mastery approach, using concrete, pictoral and abstract methods. After grabbing some fresh air, a snack and time to catch up with our friends, we focus on some of our foundation subjects, such as RE, PSHE or Geography. Our afternoons are full of enriching and exciting subjects such as DT, ICT, Music, Science and Languages. We love to spend lots of time outdoors and this means many of our lessons take place outside, making good use of our woodland area. We have designated afternoons in our woodland; where teacher-led and child-led activities take place and we often hop on the bus to make use of the forest area at Adderley.

We end each day with whole school worship, promoting our Christian values and celebrating our achievements.
