As a school we have developed good links with all our local secondary schools. Pupils move on from us to a number of secondary schools including Grove in Market Drayton, Thomas Adams in Wem and Sir John Talbot in Whitchurch.
The secondary schools usually advertise open days for Year 5 pupils so that parents and pupils can make an informed choice about their move to the next stage in their education.
All local secondaries provide Year 6 pupils with transition days where they get to know the school prior to moving on. The Year 7 Lead Teacher also visits and meets our Year 6 teacher to discuss the children’s attainment, progress and friendship groups so that transition goes as smoothly as possible.
We also attend other events throughout the year that are hosted by the local secondary schools giving a children insight into secondary education and a glimpse of life in the schools. Such events have included sporting fixtures and music events. We usually use Grove’s stage and hall for our Christmas production.
As we are located close to other county borders, some children have moved to secondary schools out of county or to selective and private schools.
If you would like more information about transfer to secondary school please contact our Year 6 teacher via the school office.
