Our Week - Reception - W/C 23rd May

This week we have been learning all about The Queens upcoming Jubilee. The children enjoyed listening to a presentation all about The Queen and they then made some union jack flags to put up in the classroom. We discussed the British flag and its colours as well as showing children photos of The Queen throughout her life. We looked at the past and the present and how The United Kingdom has changed over the years. Some children have been writing about The Queen in provision.

In Literacy this week the children are coming to an end of their 'Dinosaurs and Jungles' topic. This week reception has been looking at adjectives and have used a range of adjectives to describe characters in their 'Gigantosaurus' topic book. The children thought of some fantastic describing words. Well done. Today the children have been planning to innovate the Gigantosaurus story ready to rewrite the story tomorrow.

In maths we have been looking at one more and one less than a number this week. In R.E we have been looking at why some stories are special to Christians. This week we looked at the story 'The Good Samaritan'. We discussed what makes a good Samaritan and how we can be one in our lives. The children then wrote about a time they have been a Good Samaritan in their lives.

On Friday, We were lucky enough to have a visit from the lovely Alison from Alisons Bee Company. Alison bought in observation honey bee hive for the children to see and she talked about the importance of bees to our environment. The children learned about how they make the bee hive and learnt about different parts of the bee.

What a great week Reception. We hope you have a fantastic half term.
