Our Week
Friday 28th January
We have been learning about water resistance this week during our science lessons. In order to study the affect of water resistance on items travelling through water, we designed and made Viking long boats. We needed our boats to float, but also be able to travel throigh the water. We talked about how streamlined shapes are able to travel quicker through the water.
Monday 17th January
We have been learning about air resistance this week during our science lessons. We were challenged to design a parachute that would have an egg attached and when dropped, wouldn't smash! We recognised that some of the best parachutes were the ones that were large and rectangular. We realised this allowed more air resistance to act on the parachute and therefore slow the parachute down.
Thursday 13th January
We have been sampling lots of different types of flapjacks this week. We have been looking at what is available in the supermarkets and taste- testing some to see which ones we enjoyed the most. We will be then thinking about these features to help us design and make our own flapjacks, which would be suitable for an athlete.
We have also continued to enjoy our class story 'Arthur and the Golden Rope'. We have created maps of the journey that Arthur took on his mission to get to the Viking Land of the Gods. Photos to follow!
Tuesday 7th December
We have spent the last few weeks developing our knowledge of fractions. We started our work by creating maths museums to show what we knew already. We have made lots of progress over the weeks and we are all now able to add and subtract fractions including improper fractions and mixed numbers, multiply fractions by whole numbers and calculate fractions of different quantities. I think that you will all agree that we have done some challenging work!
Wednesday 24th November
We all enjoyed a lovely day at Fordhall Farm. The sun was shining and we had lots of fun enjoying the fresh air, feeding the animals and building dens.
